Extended Length Carbide Burrs – Ultimate FAQ Guide

Are you looking for carbide burrs with extra-large shaft sizes?

Syndent is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of extended length carbide burrs. With the help of these rotary files, you can grind and deburr long and narrow spaces conveniently.

Let’s move further to know about the types, specifications, and manufacturing process of Syndent extended length carbide burrs.

Extended Length Carbide Burr

What Are Extended Length Carbide Burrs?

Syndent manufactures long length carbide burrs to work on spaces that regular burrs cannot reach. These burrs have long shanks.

The shank sizes range from 3 inches (75mm) to 12 inches (300mm). However, the most commonly used size is 6 inches (150mm).

As the length of the shank increases, the burr tends to jump more while machining. But Syndent make a better control on the balance.

Anyhow, Syndent recommends you to work at a slower speed while working with your extended length carbide burrs.

It is also known as long-reach carbide burrs. It is suitable for grinding, deburring, cutting, and milling in difficult areas to reach.

You can use extended length carbide burrs on variable surfaces and with multiple tools. Syndent manufactures long shank burrs with various shapes and cuts.

For your convenience, you can get customized shapes and sizes of your carbide burrs. Syndent’s high-grade tungsten carbide burrs help you attain the best results in whichever industry you work in.

Extended Length Carbide Burr

What Is the Manufacturing Process of Extended Length Carbide Burrs?

Syndent manufactures extended length carbide burrs with the best raw material. The quality control team inspects every step of the procedure.

Highly efficient and advanced machines are used to provide you durable carbide burrs. Here are the steps Syndent follows to make the best rotary tools for you.

Raw Material Gathering

Syndent gathers the cobalt–tungsten carbide from state-owned suppliers. The QA/QC team then inspects the high-grade tungsten carbide.

After the approval, the material is then sent to the factory to start the manufacturing process. Syndent uses tungsten carbide for making extended length carbide burrs because of its robust nature.

Tungsten carbide burrs can work on variable surfaces, including hard steel and rock.

Silver Brazing

The raw flute and shank are joined together by the brazing technique. Brazing means that the base material (shank and flute) is not melted.

A filler material is used, melted, and filled to join both metal parts. Syndent uses silver as the filler material.

Silver is melted and brazed at a very low temperature.

Extended Length Carbide Burr

Balancing Test

After joining both parts and before attaining the final shape, Syndent performs a balancing test on each extended length carbide burrs.

Long shanks tend to jump more and need a solid balance to work smoothly. Syndent ensures that the tolerance level does not exceed 0.1mm.

Bending Test

After checking the balance of the extended length carbide burrs, Syndent conducts another test that is the bending test. Brittle burrs tend to break as soon as you start working on a hard surface.

To avoid such conditions, Syndent makes tungsten carbide burrs ductile and durable. The burrs are bent to a specific level to check the flexibility and resilience.

The bending test ensures that you can conveniently work on more challenging surfaces without the fear of damage or breakage.

Shaping & Toothing

After testing the balance and durability, the burrs get their shape. Precise grinding takes place to give the carbide burrs their predetermined shape.

The CNC machines grind the extended length carbide burrs and create sharp flutes. The QA/QC team ensures that the flutes have sharp and uniform teeth to provide you smooth and finished results.

Extended Length Carbide Burr

Polishing

To give the extended length carbide burrs a finished and smooth finish, Syndent polishes the shanks, flutes, and brazing points precisely.

Packaging

In the end, the finished burrs are packed in exceptional cases. Syndent’s logos on the burrs and casing are a sign of high quality and durability.

You can get your company’s customized logos and name on the burrs and casing on demand.

What Are the Uses of Extended Length Carbide Burrs?

Extended length carbide burrs are specifically designed to reach long and narrow spaces. You can utilize these burrs for multiple functions. Like:

Deburring

Deburring means, remove unwanted material from a surface. To remove undesired metal chunks from a long and narrow surface, extended length carbide burrs are an ideal solution.

Shaping

Rotary burrs are suitable to shape a de-shaped metal piece. You can conveniently use carbide burrs to shape ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Grinding

Grinding a narrow has never been so easy. Syndent’s extended length carbide burrs provide you a smooth grinding experience.

The sharp flute teeth and high rotatory speed help you to perform the grinding quickly and effectively.

Hard steel, ferrous, and non-ferrous materials are easy to grind without the fear of breakage or getting hot.

Extended Length Carbide Burr

Cutting

With the sharp flutes of your extended length carbide burrs, you can conveniently cut any surface into small pieces.

The primary purpose of carbide burrs is to grind or deburr. However, you can cut a surface with your rotary files.

You may not get accurate results as a cutting wheel may provide you, but you can smoothen the edges later on by grinding.

Enlarging Holes

Drilling is another function Syndent’s carbide burrs can perform significantly. Digging into any material, making holes, or enlarging holes is an easy task to do with your extended length carbide burrs.

The extended shank length allows you to dig in farther than a regular shank can do for you. You can attain variable shapes by digging in a material, like make curved corners, work on pointed holes, or arced holes.

How?

It leads to our next question. Let’s read further.

What Are the Various Types of Extended Length Carbide Burrs?

Syndent manufactures extended length carbide burrs in variable sizes and shapes. These shapes allow you to work on various surfaces.

For example, to grind a right-angled corner, have a cylindrical burr with end cut, or work on curved or round edges, you may use a ball-shaped burr.

Let’s find out more about the various shapes and their uses.

Extended Length Carbide Burr

Cylinder Shape Extended Length Carbide Burrs

It is an ideal burr to remove unwanted metal chunks from a flat surface. Cylindrical burrs are available with

  • End cut
  • Radius end
  • Flat end

These ends facilitate you to work on multiple surfaces. For example, a cylindrical burr with an end cut can work on a right-angled corner of a flat surface.

Cylinder shape rotary file with a radius end is suitable to work on a flat surface with a round or arced angle corner.

Ball and Oval Shaped Extended Length Carbide Burrs

Machining around curved edges is possible with the help of a ball-shaped or oval-shaped carbide burr.

Giving a smooth finish without destroying the round corners can conveniently be done with the help of these burrs.

These two shapes are ideally used before brazing. The fast-moving round burr gives the surface a smooth finish which you can conveniently treat with a filler material later on.

Tree Shaped Extended Length Carbide Burrs

Long shanks are helpful to reach long and narrow spaces. Tree-shaped burrs are also known for their easy-to-reach property in challenging positions.

There are two types of tree-shaped burrs – pointed end and radius end. Pointed end burrs are suitable for grinding round edges on the corners.

At the same time, radius end files are helpful to contour corners with arc and curves.

Extended Length Carbide Burr

Various Shapes

Some other valuable shapes Syndent manufactures to suit your need are:

  • Cone shape
  • Taper shape with a pointed end
  • Taper shape with radius end
  • Flame shape burr

In Which Tools Can I Use Extended Length Carbide Burrs?

Syndent’s extended length carbide burrs work at a very high speed. Die grinders are the best partner to work along with the high-speed rotary tools.

However, Syndent makes the shank head diameter of a standard size that suits most rotary tools.

Apart from die grinders, the rotary burrs can also effectively work with pneumatic rotary tools, pendant drills, hobby drills, high-speed engravers, and micromotors.

No matter which tools you choose for machining, the most important thing is that you fix your extended length carbide burrs firmly into the collet.

Loose and badly fixed burrs can result in serious injury.

What Is the Importance of Extended Length Carbide Burrs in Sculpture Making?

Sculpture making is a profession as well as a hobby for many. Sculptures are made on various materials like wood, stone, metal, plaster, clay, and many more.

Sometimes sculpting becomes difficult with chisel and hammer. Syndent has made it convenient for artists to create sculptures on hard surfaces.

If you are an artist, you can conveniently carve a wood log into a fine portrait. Variable burrs make it easy for you to chip out the desired piece.

Radius ends, pointed ends, and flat ends make it easy for you to create a required shape on your sculpture.

Syndent’s extended length carbide burrs are an added advantage to your tool kit. It can reach areas that a standard burr cannot grind.

You can reach a deep hole or make a deep cut with the help of a long shank burr. The handy small-sized rotary tools are easy to carry. A sculptor can conveniently have the rotary tool and grind the desired area.

At the same time, the fats moving burrs allow you to complete the sculpture in less time than chipping out with a chisel and hammer.

Does High Pressure Accelerate the Milling Process?

Pressure is not the primary factor to grind or deburr. Sharp flute teeth are explicitly designed to give you the desired results without putting pressure.

Especially when it comes to extended length carbide burrs, you do not need to put more pressure. Unnecessary pressure will cause your burr to jump and wobble.

Wobbling may end up in uneven lines and unwanted results. Unwanted pressure can also damage your carbide burr.

A gentle force with firm gripping is all you need to attain the desired results. It is recommended to start your work at a slow speed.

Switch on the die grinder first and then put it on the workpiece. Slowly increase the pace of your die grinder and keep moving the rotating burr.

Forced pressure can result in blunt edges of your carbide burrs, and very slow speed can result in clogged flute teeth.

Is There a Special Way to Use Extended Length Carbide Burrs?

There are specific techniques you must follow while working with your extended length carbide burrs. By following these techniques, you can attain the best results.

These are:

  • A moderate pressure gives you better results and a firm grip.
  • Unnecessary stress may cause damage burr and uneven lines on the workpiece.
  • Extended length carbide burrs tend to jump more with very high speed or excessive pressure.
  • Working at a low rate can result in metal clogging on the flute.
  • It is safe to start your rotary tool before putting the burr on the workpiece.
  • Keep the burr moving. Grinding at one place for an extended time may result in uneven lines.
  • Ensure that the burr in the collet and workpiece on the bench are tightly screwed.
  • Try to move along the rotation of your burr to get better results.
  • It is better to end in an ‘up’ stroke to get a smooth finish.
  • Always choose a smaller in diameter bit than the working space. For example, if the hole size is 1 inch, Syndent recommends you to work with a half-inch or smaller in diameter burr.

How Can I Clean My Extended Length Carbide Burrs?

Metal clogging is a common problem to observe while working with your extended length carbide burrs.

It is not a big deal. You can conveniently remove the clogged metal from your burr by using the following methods.

If your burr has aluminum chunks clogged on the flute, firstly, try to chip out as much material with a stiff brush as possible.

After that, dip the burr in muriatic acid (HCL) for a while. Let the acid do its part. The acid will dissolve the aluminum leaving your burr neat and clean.

Ensure that you dip only the flute into the acid. Dropping the shank may cause damage to the burr.

The second way to clean your burr is to use ultrasonic waves. It is recommended to use if the flute is clogged with steel or material like that.

Run the carbide burr for about 2 minutes in an enzymatic cleaner. After that, rinse the burr with cold water.
